Why Futon Bunk Beds Are So Convenient - By: Sam J Kerry, Posted on: 2007-08-07

A futon bunk bed is a great choice for anyone wanting to save space and also looking for versatility. These beds do double duty as a couch during the daytime and a bed at night. They are also attractive and affordable.

Futon bunk beds come in a variety of different frame styles. Many are metal, and these come in all the colors of the rainbow. Other frames are wooden and can be found in many different finishes. You can find a frame to compliment any decor or theme.

The best made futon frames are constructed of wood with the supporting slats located very close together. This ensures that the mattress does not bunch through the frame and cause discomfort. Metal supports are also common, but do not provide the same level of comfort that wooden ones do.

When choosing your futon bunk bed consider styles where you can fold out the bottom bunk without having to move the frame and still have the bed up against the wall. This will help save space as some styles require the bed to be a little distance from the wall to be able to lay out the bed. You really want to be able to convert your sofa into a bed as easily as possible without moving the frame.

Depending on how often your futon bunk bed is going to be used will depend on the mattress you will want to buy. If it is used on a daily basis you will obviously want a good quality, possibly inner spring, mattress which although more expensive will last longer and should be more comfortable. If the futon is only being used for guests on a less regular basis you may want to consider a cheaper mattress.

Another thing to consider with your futon bunk bed is the mattress cover. There are many styles available and you will probably want one that blends in with the room and looks good as a couch covering and is suitable as a mattress cover. Silk and cotton are both popular with people.

A Futon bunk bed gives you another option over the traditional type of bunk bed and thats why students and people who are short on space often find they are just what they are looking for. Being able to use it as couch during the day and within minutes convert it to a bed at night is very convenient.

Since the futon was adapted from its original use in Japan of being placed on the floor it has become very poplar with people in the USA who are short on space. Placing the futon on a wood or metal frame and being able to use it as a couch or bed has made it a winner with students and young people.
