What is the Best Carpet Cleaning Tip? - By: Nikki Rowd, Posted on: 2007-08-18
Where cleaning carpets is concerned, there has to be hundreds of remedies and ways to get rid of odors, stains, grease, shading, carpet stitch damage, dirt and what have you. There are also several known tips that housewives and professional cleaners have come up with in order to replace those "when in doubt, use cleaning solution" remedies. Below are some of those tips and hopefully, from the list, you may be able to determine for yourself which ones work best. Stains Let's face it: for carpets and upholstery, the most common enemy is the everyday spill. It can be a range of all sorts of liquids from water to something as sticky as honey. The spill can be from food sauces like spaghetti and mushroom soup. Whatever the spill is, it will definitely leave something behind after cleaning up. Cleaning those stains aren't so difficult. The first carpet cleaning tip, of course, is to not let any spill settle. It should be wiped up immediately to minimize the stain amount that may be left behind. If you need to use carpet soap on the spill, clean and wash the carpet with water first before applying the detergent on the spill. Another important carpet cleaning tip you need to keep in mind is to dilute cleaning liquids such as vinegar, rubbing alcohol, ammonia in water if you use these to clean carpet spills and stains as these may only ruin and damage the texture and color when used directly. Odors on Carpets One of the first things that can form when you have a stain that is in the carpet for a long time is an odor. Odors can come in different smells but none of them are pleasant at all. You also have to think of the germs that are gathering in the stains that do give off nasty smells. One carpet cleaning tip is to clean the stain first and to get rid of the odor by using a scented detergent. Neutral detergents will not get rid of smells easily. If you don't want to use a scented detergent, another tip is to buy any kind of air freshening spray. The nice thing about sprays is that they are available with more scents than detergents are and they are easier to apply too. Dents A damage in your carpets is probably the last thing you want to deal with. This holds true especially if you have furniture on your carpets. Most likely, your carpets could develop dents where your grandfather's clock used to be on. Couches, tables and other furniture can flatten areas on your carpet. There's no easy way around restoring those dents from the furniture. You may have to steam iron and brush those areas with tough bristles. Make sure that when applying steam to the dented areas, the iron will not touch the carpet. With those tough bristles, you can also brush those dented areas until the carpet fibers are restored to its original condition. However, this may take some time before it is restored especially if the dents have been sitting on your carpet for a long time. For those who would rather pay than do all the work themselves, there are carpet cleaning professionals and repair experts who will gladly do it for you.
