First Tattoo Guide - By: Liza Remington, Posted on: 2007-08-14
Lots of people get a tattoo on impulse without thinking the process through. That is not always a good idea for something so permanent. Tattoos are excellent expressions of special times in your life or special people. Just think it through and decide if the sentiment for today is one that you honestly want to carry around for a lifetime. Tattoos can be extremely expensive if you go with an elaborate custom design. Custom time takes the artist more time to design and more time to apply. If you are ready to make a significant investment in your body art than custom design tattoos are for you. Stock design tattoos are less expensive and take less time for your tattoo artist to design or apply. If you select a stock tattoo design from your tattoo artist you are probably going to get a design he has done many times before. Your artist will be able to move quickly through the design. You may be able to compromise on price and design by selecting a stock design and adding a small change or a new color to make your tattoo unique but still affordable. Color for your tattoo is very important. Depending upon the statement you want to make with your tattoo you can either use black and shaded or the boldest colors available. Both black and shaded and colored can make vivid statements. Using color can make even your stock tattoo designs unique. Color is often more costly than black and shaded but definitely can add a little more flare to your tattoo design. Black and shaded also has its strong selling points. A tattoo done with black ink only can really stand out. There will be great contrast between your natural skin color and the tattoo ink which can make any design really pop. Location, location, location is not only important in real estate but equally important in tattoos. Where you put your tattoo will definitely tell your viewers a story. Put in a public place and advertise your attitude. Put it in a place hidden by clothing and keep it as a reminder of memories or know that the tattoo is just for that particular someone's eyes only. Tattoos placed in areas where the skin is just going to hurt more than in areas where there is more muscle or fat. Decide on your pain tolerance level before you start the process. Your artist may be able to deliver a few small skin tests to determine if your pain tolerance for that particular location is acceptable. Areas with thinner skin include ankles, head, chest and lower back. Areas where pain may not be as intense include arms, legs, shoulders and your rear end.
