Attack of the Killer Mortage Virus - By: Andrew Bloom, Posted on: 2007-01-24
One click here, a little information there..... I'm all set. I laugh when I think about all those suckers that never "bothered" to shop on-line. The Mortage Virus is after us all !!!!! You can't escape it. I listen to the radio and get 15 mortgage commercials per hour, I get my mail and there are 10 envelopes that are personally addressed, critically important, and if opened by anyone other than the addressee I may get imprisoned (or at least a large fine). In a panic I turn to the internet to get more information when I'm confronted once again. Every page viewed... it's there. So, I did a search for "predatory lending", "excessive fees", "mortgage scams". Wonderfull articles appeared before my eyes. Scathing articles about letcherous mortgage "professionals", title companies on the take, lenders forcing bad loans upon good people. Such insight..... truly amazing, but then I peek to the side and I blink. I blink again. There it is.... the ugly mortgage virus rearing it's ugly head once again (why would they be advertising these things if they are soo bad for us?). Ever vigilant for a good deal though and genuinely curious at this point, I scratch m head and wonder about this great country of ours and I think "gosh, the Free-Market system is alive and well, all these ad's.... there's a lot of competition going on here, surely this is how to get a good deal". One click here, a little information there..... I'm all set. I laugh when I think about all those suckers that never "bothered" to shop on-line. Thursday: I check my e-mail and there are 3 sweet e-mails awaiting me. Yes, I truly am the captain of my ship, the ruler of my world. Just think, they are begging me just to consider giving them a chance. The nerve, I think, did they think that I would really bite at first blush? Friday: More e-mails..... time to get serious. My phone has begun to ring a little more too, but damned if I'll ever talk to a telemarketer. Hey, I'll be right back, I've got to take care of some stuff. It's Friday so on Monday I'll really dig into this and see who's going to give me the best deal on a mortgage. Monday: More e-mails, more phone calls (I silently dare these telemarketers to show up at my house). Oh, my gosh.... one loan and no fees, another with a lower interest rate, yet another promising a free appraisal and a completely different type of deal. Ha... ha... ha... I've got the world by it's tail (well at least when it comes to shopping for a mortgage). Tuesday... Wednesday... Thursday ----- Ok, maybe I'm a little confused. I'm really not sure which way to turn. Several of them sounded nice and I'm sure Betty won't steer me wrong.... but then again Mark's deal could be the way to go. Time for a little more internet research. Saturday: Advice.... that's what I need. How about a google search for Free Loan Advice (advice is good.... but I don't want to pay for it). Then I stumble across http://www.freeloanadvice.net They claim this is a Spam-Free site so I signed up to get the "Ultimate Mortgage Shopping Guide". Now things are beginning to make sense. There is even an article on that page that talks about On-Line Mortgage Inquiries. Ok, maybe I'm not as smart as I thought. Apparently all that I have done is released the monsters. My information has been sold and re-sold and re-sold ---- that explains all the phone calls and e-mails. This web site really lives up to it's promises. I went to the Rate and Fee Analyzer page and put in the information from one of the quotes that I got. Holy cow!!! I discovered that company was going to make about $8,500 off of my loan. How ridiculous, why would I pay anyone that much just for giving me a loan? So, I followed their advice and was able to get a loan 35% cheaper with a lower interest rate which saved me an additional $125 per month. Now were talking. I think the information found at Free Loan Advice is incredible ---- I would recommend this site to all my family and friends. Why? Because it's time to kill the ugly mortgage virus --- and if everyone used the site --- the virus would most certainly die. I agree that the time has come to change the mortgage business. By the way, I'm still getting e-mails and phone calls ----- all from just one on-line inquiry.
